Nancy has extensive training & broad experience in child & family counselling, mental health & medical social work.

EDUCATION

Nancy attended McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario & received a

Bachelors of Arts Degree in Sociology (B.A.) & a Bachelors Degree in

Social Work (B.S.W.) Her field training took place at Burlington Family

Counselling & Family Services of Hamilton Wentworth.

Nancy later attended the University of British Columbia in Vancouver &

received a Masters Degree in Social Work (M.S.W). Her field training

took place in St. Vincent’s Hospital in the Social Work Department.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

Nancy has over 25 years of work experience in the field of social work

in both rural & urban settings. She has had the opportunity to work in

numerous varied settings such as group homes, half way house, Mental

Health Centres, Child Welfare agencies, Community Services, Hospital &

Private Practice. She has worked with children, teens & adults of all ages.

Some of the settings she has worked in are:

Sea to Sky Community Services Society, Whistler/Pemberton

Provided various services including children’s mental health, sexual abuse

counselling for children & alcohol & drug counselling.

Squamish Mental Health Centre – Psychiatric Social Worker

Provided community based mental health services. Counselled sexually

abused women & co-led a group for abused women. Developed

resources for the chronically mentally ill.

Ministry of Social Services & Housing, Social Worker, Squamish, B.C.

Provided services involving child protection, family services,

adoptions & court work.

Vancouver General Hospital, Social Worker, Vancouver, B.C.

Provided social services to patients & their families on medical, surgical,

haemeotology & palliative care wards. Primary duties were psycho/

social assessment, patient & family counselling, discharge planning,

long-term care planning, & provision of material resources (equipment,

accommodation, etc.

Elizabeth Fry Society, Program Coordinator, Vancouver, B.C.

Worked in a half-way house for women offenders & women with

alcohol/drug problems. Provided counselling to the residents to

assist them with life skills, communication skills, goal setting, problem

solving & relationship skills. I also managed the house which included

maintenance, ordering supplies, etc.

Ministry of Human Resources, Child Care Counsellor, Vancouver, B.C.

Worked as a relief worker in group homes for adolescents – mainly Alma House, Janus Centre & Fremlin House.

Provided services involving child protection, family counselling, court

work, foster home & adoption placement & income assistance.

Kitimat Mental Health Centre, Psychiatric Social Worker, Kitimat, B.C.

Provided community based mental health services. Focus was on clinical treatment & consultation to individuals, couples, families & groups. Colead parenting skills programs.

First Place Community Centre, Project Manager, Hamilton, Ontario

Responsible for supervision of three workers, hiring workers, supervising, bookkeeping & planning of activation program for nursing homes. As a Volunteer Coordinator, I was responsible for assessment for residents’ needs, developing activity programs & coordinating volunteers in two nursing homes.

Dawn Patrol Group Home, Relief Staff, Hamilton, Ontario

Responsible for the running of the group home & care of the residents

while house parents absent.
This is a Ministry of Corrections Group Home for adolescents.

Amity Rehabilitation Centre, Researcher Hamilton, Ontario

Surveyed Hamilton’s physically disabled population concerning their

needs for specialized housing & wrote a report “No Place to Call Home”

Halton Children’s Aid Society, Relief Worker, Burlington, Ontario

Worked in various foster group homes for adolescents as the relief worker while parents were absent.

Private Practice, Whistler, B.C.

Nancy worked in Private Practice for over 12 years in Whistler, B.C.

During that time she saw individuals, couples & families privately. She also provided counselling through numerous Employee Assistance Programs. As well she was contracted to provide Children’s Mental Health Services to Whistler & Pemberton. She also was contracted to provide SAIP (Sexual Abuse Intervention Program) services to Whistler, Pemberton & Mt. Currie.

Volunteer/Community Service

Nancy has been a volunteer in numerous setting such as: McMaster

Sexual Education Centre, Sprucedale Correctional School, Big Brothers/

Big Sisters of Whistler & Pemberton, Girl Guides of Canada in

Whistler & North Saanich, Canadian Cancer Society, School PACS

& the Green Party.
